Priesthood isn't just what he does — it is who he is.
Fr. Valentine Yuven did not stumble into the sacred. He was drawn there — slowly, surely, and with a clarity that only deepens with time. For fifteen years he has stood at the altar, walked alongside the broken, and given himself completely to a call that chose him long before he answered it. This is his story.
From a quiet beginning to a life fully given
Fr. Valentine Yuven was born on Wednesday 22nd April 1981 to Francis Yuven and Bertha Kiloshu, all of happy memory. He is the 4th in a family of 7, 4 girls and 3 boys. He started his education at the Government Bilingual Primary School Sodiko in Bonaberi, Douala in 1986. On the 15th of April 1990 he received his first Holy Communion with the Anglophone community of St. Louis Parish Bonaberi. Later on in July of that same year he received his confirmation. It should be noted that the Anglophone community later migrated to their current site (St. Joseph the Worker Parish Bonendale–Bonaberi). He later began with his secondary education at St. Aloysius’ Minor Seminary Kitiwum on the 8th of September 1994, where he obtained his O/L in 1999. After 2 years in high school in the same institution, he failed the A/L. He later obtained his A/L at Government High School Kumbo in 2002.
He was later admitted at the St. John Mary Vianney Spiritual Centre for a year of spiritual formation. On the 15th of September 2003 he began with his philosophical studies at St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, Bambui. He later obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy in 2006. He was then sent to Nkambe Town Quasi Parish for a year of pastoral formation. On the 13th of September 2007, he began with his theological studies in the aforementioned institution.
On the 29th of June 2010, he was ordained a Deacon by Archbishop Cornelius Fontem Esua. And on the 29th of April 2011 he was ordained a priest by Bishop George Nkuo. Fr Yuven enjoys watching football, listening to music, cooking and traveling.
